Color Wedding Themes With Black Accents

March 11th, 2008 by Rose

One of the first things that couples will choose are their wedding colors (if they don’t already have a theme in mind). Most likely you’ll want something a bit different and unique, and maybe those pastel shades of pink, green, and blue just don’t do it for you.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone.  Modern brides have used all ranges of colors (unfortunately, I’ve seen a few hideous combinations - so we’ll try to avoid those). One of the most popular selections is based on a black and white wedding theme, which can be very elegant and sophisticated, and is a great choice for many couples.

However, let’s face it, pretty well any color goes well with black, and when used as an accent, this can make for some truly stunning color combinations.

One theme I just finished up is a Red & Black Wedding Theme.   There is surprisingly quite a few ideas out there that suit this color scheme. It’s also the main colors for Asian weddings (and white is reserved for funerals). Here are a few more combinations that you may want to consider that use black:

Royal Blue and Black

Ice Blue and Black

Sunny Yellow and Black

Pale Pink and Black

Hot Pink and Black

Black and Gold

Black and Silver

Bright Green and Black

Deep Orange and Black (Halloween Wedding)

Light Purple and Black

Royal Purple and Black

Take the time to use the above list to help springboard your own ideas for wedding color combinations using black. What can you come up with that will make your wedding stand out and remain memorable for your guests?

Using romantic love poetry is the perfect way to personalize your wedding stationary or as an inspiring verse in your wedding vows.

One place where you can find some beautiful inspirational love poems is at Inspirational Words of Wisdom: Love Poems. Wedding Themes and More also has a good selection of wedding vows, verses and love poems.

How about presenting your Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids with their own framed poem? It’s a great way to personalize a thank you gift to them.  You can find some wonderful verses of friendship poetry here.

And don’t forget love and friendship quotes! These are just the right size to add to favor gift tags, at the bottom of handcrafted invitations, printed within your wedding programs, or even to use as a gift themselves, such as on bookmarks.

Family Weddings: It Involves More Than The Bride and Groom

August 20th, 2007 by Rose

With so many divorces, remarriages and couple living together before marriage, planning a simple wedding ceremony tends to become much more complicated. Traditional weddings focus on the bride and groom alone, but what role do children/step-children play in this new blended family union?

More than 1 million single parents will remarry each year. While the bride and groom are happy and secure with their new union, most often, the children who are brought into the marriage are not.

Many kids often feel insecure within the new family unit that is forming, especially if they’ve experienced a divorce between their parents within recent years. They’re most pressing desires is to be reassured that this family will stay together and fears of it falling apart often lurk within their minds.

So how do you assure your children and soon-to-be step-children that, not only will the marriage remain intact, but they are an important part this new family unit?

One such way to do this is with a Family Medallion ceremony, a special service that was developed by Dr. Roger Coleman, the chaplain of Pilgrim Chapel in Kansas City over 15 years ago. Each year more than 15,000 couples choose to use this or an adapted version of this unique service. It can easily be incorporated into any religious or civil ceremony and helps the children feel as if they are bonding into the new family unit as well.

How does it work? After the regular service and once the rings have been exchange, your children are summoned to your sides by the official performing the ceremony. He or she will then recite the words in the ceremony or use an adaptation of the words that you have written.

Most couples include such things like pledging to love and care for all the children that have been united into the new family. Gold and/or silver medallions are then presented to each child by the parents sealing their pledges, much like wedding bands are a visible sign of your commitment to your new marriage.

The service itself provides a wonderful bonding experience for everyone involved, but more importantly, the children now feel as if they really are a part of the new family.

Choosing an Ideal Location For Your Fall Wedding

August 8th, 2007 by Rose

In the early part of the fall, holding your fall wedding ceremony outdoors provides a truly photographic setting if you live in an area where the tree leaves turn a wondrous array of colors. Think of holding your ceremony in one of the following locations:

  • Apple orchards with their colorful leaves and bright, red apples for contrast. Theme Suggestion: apple orchard theme wedding.
  • A vineyard is also a popular choice with many brides and grooms. Theme Suggestions: wine/vineyard/grape wedding theme.
  • Local nature parks are also provide a perfect setting for a fall wedding. The trees themselves provide a wonderful decorating scheme. Theme: colorful leaves.

For later in the fall or if you aren’t interesting in having your wedding outside, look for 18th century style churches, Tudor style inns, historic villages, or a large barn to hold your ceremony and reception.

These places provide wonderful character and lend themselves to being decorated in fall foliage and decor. If possible, choose locations that provide warmth using rich dark wood on the floors and/or walls, as well as welcoming fireplaces.
